Mama Lion and her Cubs

This is the week for birthdays around here. Yep I had mine on July 28th and in a few hours my Twins will turn 10 YEE=HAW!

I look on the last 10 years of my life and ALOT has changed. I have changed. Sometimes I wonder if it is for the better or worse. Up until 6 years ago I worked full time and another extra job on the side. I was dressed to the nines and spent at least an hour a day getting fixed up. These days I may spend 1 hour a week getting gussied up.

I very rarely wore pants, I was dress girl. T-shirts and tennis shoes were something I NEVER wore. Boy have times changed because now I even wear baseball caps when I am dodging the "fix hair" routine.

I look in the mirror and I wonder who that woman is. Sometimes it scares me and other times I like the skin I am in. Speaking of skin ...in my younger days (yeah i know...one day does not make that much of a difference) I spent gobs of money on expensive skin care and now my only skin care regimen is washing my face on a daily basis. I also went through a can of hairspray a week, now a can last a whole year.

What happened? I don't know and I am still trying to figure it out.

Ten years ago I went into labor so we headed to Saint Luke's Hospital in Houston. They did an amniocenteses to see if the Twin's lungs were developed enough to be delivered a few weeks premature. The tests came back ok. So they wheeled me into delivery which was my first surgery (at that time) one of them was breech so we had to do a C=section. I was so nervous and scared. I was told that I looked like a deer caught in the headlights. I thought I was dying. I refused to be put to sleep because I had waited almost 9 months to see the little angels that God had given me and I did not want to be asleep when they came into the world.

I was told never to get pregnant. I had such high risk pregnancies due to my rare blood type and not getting a Rhogam shot after my first baby. So when I became pregnant with the Twins while on birth control, I was not sure that I should keep the pregnancy and was advised to terminate and I came very close to doing that. Instead I saw a specialist once a week and had a total of 6 amniocenteses along the way. I prayed feverntly every day that God would keep them save. And he did even though my blood fought against them as a foreign object. My daughter and I picked their names based on God's purpose. Caleb=means Mighty Warrior of God and Christian-means Like God.

Happy 10th Birthday Caleb and Christian!!! God is Good!

Wow! What an awesome story. Thank you for sharing it. I am fascinated when I hear of women displaying such strength against all odds.

I think it is neat to look back and see whence we came. I can relate to your part of the story about always dressing the 9s and not wearing pants. I am far more comfortable now in my "skin" than I have ever been. It is a nice feeling.

Happy birthday to you & the twins!!

Thank you, TamW, for sharing this. Of course those boys are special, those names are very fitting!
Thank you too for responding to my blog today. I really didn't mean to encourage any guilt trips. I hope yours was sort of tongue-in-cheek, like the proverbial Freudian slip.
